Saturday 25. We are still at the beginning of the festival, the day before the opening, but the festival’s great gems are already starting to arrive.
At Es Baluard Museu we continue with our favorite queer films. We continue with the queer director of the moment, the anthology of films by Louise Weard, the John Waters of Generation Z. We begin the afternoon with a crowd favorite, the great film by director Gregg Araki: an unforgettable story, outstanding performances, and a soundtrack we are still listening to 20 years later. We continue with a hidden gem in Spain that has caused a stir in the United States, starring Jaeden Martell “It”: it is a strange cocktail of “Elephant”, TikTok, and the incel phenomenon. To finish, the film many of you have been waiting for, the queer Balearic film of the year (or the decade): Joan Porcel and Lluis Garau explore the intersection between cruising and the internet. And yes, we still have music, today with Tesorito de la Isla and Dj Danlou.
At Sala Rívoli we will have the first talk by Cati Moyà and Marta Pérez, creators of “Literatura amb Crispetes”, accompanying the dark story behind the creator of “Pippi Calzaslargas”. One of the Spanish documentaries of the year, with the presence of its directors, featuring stunning cinematography and an extremely necessary message. Finally, the next film by the director of “El hijo de Saúl”, for which he won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
At CineCiutat we have the perfect day for film lovers. We begin with a cycle dedicated to the greatest Greek director in history, with one of his major works: the Spanish premiere of its 4K restoration. Then, another cinephile highlight: the return of Marc Cousins, the leading film intellectual of the 21st century, creator of “Historia del Cine: Una Odisea”, who returns in top form with an exhaustive, educational, and entertaining exploration of the history of documentary film.
ES BALUARD MUSEU
– 11:00 CASTRATION MOVIE, UNA ANTOLOGÍA: CAPÍTULOS CAPÍTULO 3 (CARA A Y CARA B)
We continue with the anthology by Luise Weard, undoubtedly the most daring and provocative films at Atlàntida. Produced by the creator of “Matrix”, Lilly Wachowski, and shot on a handycam that belonged to the director’s parents. All the stories have autobiographical roots or are inspired by threads from 4chan, the internet forum where the Backrooms also originated.
Circle is a trans woman who is part of a transfeminist sect called “Polygon” that worships a corrupt AI. Despite the strict control she is subjected to, one night she escapes to wander through New York with people who will offer her new perspectives on life, freedom, and identity.

– 17:00 MYSTERIOUS SKIN
Our second film in the festival’s Classics and queer section, and the second year we present the Spanish premiere of a Gregg Araki restoration. The director’s most mature and devastating film, featuring an outstanding acting duo: Brady Corbet, director of “The Brutalist”, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“Origen”), along with a soundtrack you will not stop listening to, featuring Sigur Ros and Slowdive.
Two teenagers: one grows up convinced he was abducted by a UFO, and the other gives himself over to a life of prostitution, excess, and self-destruction. What is the origin of their disturbing compulsions? And above all, can they find a way to overcome them?
– 19:00 NUESTRO HÉROE BALTAZHAR
An extreme cocktail: TikTok, incels, and school shooters. Starring Jaeden Martell (“It”) and Asa Butterfield (“La invención de Hugo”), its U.S. premiere was surrounded by controversy after it was reportedly boycotted by the Sundance and SXSW festivals.
Balthazar, a wealthy teenager, wants to impress the progressive activist he is in love with by recording homemade videos against guns. But everything changes when he discovers a plot surrounding a “school shooter”. What better way to win someone’s heart than by becoming a hero?
– 21:00 LA CARN
The Balearic queer film, period. The only Spanish film selected at the prestigious SXSW London festival, and winner of two Biznagas at the Málaga Film Festival: Best Film and Best Actor for Lluís Garau. And what better way to watch it than together with its full team.
A solitary performer explores his sexuality through the screen. There, he meets strangers, until he ends up confusing the real with the virtual and theater with life. A masked man, a crime to be solved, and a roulette wheel that never stops spinning.
SALA RÍVOLI
– 17:00 ASTRID LINDGREN, DIARIOS DE GUERRA
The dark hidden story behind the creator of Pippi Calzaslargas. A revisiting of her childhood diaries, which remained hidden for 70 years. Her experience with fascism impacted her so deeply that her most iconic character was born, as a response, free and anti-authoritarian.
When Germany invades Poland, Astrid Lindgren lives in neutral Sweden, but even so, frightened by the advance of fascism, she begins a diary that becomes her most faithful companion and the most precise chronicle of those dark years.
For those who love cinema and photography but also care about the planet. Poetic and reflective, the film is a call for the need to document and, above all, to care for our environment. This screening will be accompanied by a discussion with directors Rafa Molés and Pepe Andreu.
Before anyone spoke about climate change, seven siblings moved to the foot of a glacier. They cared for it as the best of guardians. After their death, only ruin and melting ice remained. Photographer Ragnar Axelsson returns to that same place, searching for the traces of the siblings and the echo of a vanishing past.
– 21:00 ORPHAN
A miracle and a joy for any cinephile: Laslo Nemes, director of “El Hijo de Saúl”, returns. Ten years after delivering one of the best debuts of this century, Nemes rewrites the past of his family memory.
Budapest, 1957. After the uprising against the communist regime, a young orphan faces the arrival of a mysterious man who claims to be his father.
CINECIUTAT
– 17:00 LA ETERNIDAD Y UN DÍA
The beginning of the great Theo Angelopoulos cycle, fully remastered in 4K, with one of the great films of European auteur cinema. Winner of the Palme d’Or in 1998. Los Angeles Times described it as a masterpiece, comparing it to “Fresas salvajes” by Ingmar Bergman.
Alexander knows he is going to die, but he has enough time to carry out one last act: helping an Albanian child cross the border to return home.
– 20:00 THE STORY OF DOCUMENTARY FILM
